Kairos Technology is proud to announce our active participation in the ProSafe research project, an ambitious initiative funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. ProSafe focuses on leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), to revolutionize process safety management in high-hazard industries.

The project brings together leading academic institutions, industry partners, and technology providers to address critical gaps in risk assessment and process safety. Coordinated by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), ProSafe targets the integration of Process Systems Engineering (PSE) and data-driven insights from AI and ML to set new benchmarks for safety and operational excellence in industries such as energy, chemicals, and manufacturing.

The Mission and Objectives of ProSafe

ProSafe aims to redefine process safety by advancing both research and professional training in this multidisciplinary field. The project is structured around several key goals, including:

  • Harmonizing Risk Assessment: Developing new Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) methods that enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of safety evaluations.
  • AI and ML in Operations: Creating interpretable ML models that utilize domain knowledge to ensure safer and more reliable operations.
  • Synergistic Integration: Combining model-based and data-based methods to improve process monitoring and safety interventions.
  • Industry-Driven Validation: Demonstrating the practical impact of these innovations through case studies that address real-world safety challenges.

Equally important, ProSafe aims to train the next generation of process safety experts through a novel European doctoral program, equipping them with interdisciplinary skills in technology, safety analysis, and innovation.

Kairos Technology's role in driving innovation

Kairos Technology, with its extensive expertise in operational safety and digital transformation, plays an important role as industry partner to ProSafe. By contributing to the development of practical AI-driven tools for process safety, Kairos Technology is working to bridge the gap between theoretical advancements and industrial applications.

"Our involvement focuses on providing the doctoral candidates with insights from industry to align academic efforts with relevant industrial problems, as well as supporting the integration with our tools for safety and efficiency in high-risk environments," says Denis Kirchhübel, Process Engineering Manager at Kairos Technology.

Transforming High-Hazard Industries

ProSafe’s ambitious efforts, supported by Kairos Technology’s contributions, hold the potential to significantly impact industries reliant on critical safety measures, such as LNG processing, hydrogen production, and urea manufacturing. By equipping operators and organizations with smarter, data-driven tools, the project promises to mitigate risks, prevent accidents, and ensure sustainable operations.

The collaboration serves as a powerful example of how industry-academic partnerships can foster technological innovation while tackling societal challenges. Together, ProSafe and Kairos Technology are shaping the future of process safety, making workplaces more secure and efficient.
